Ono Shuzoten brews Yoakemae brand, which takes its name from Toson Shimazaki’s most famous historical novel, Before the Dawn. The novel takes place during the turbulent decades before and after the fall of the Tokugawa shogunate, which leads to the new government of the Meiji Era, after the Meiji Restoration (Meiji Ishin) in 1865. Ono Shuzoten was established in 1864, a year before the Meiji Ishin. Ono Shuzoten launched its Kiippon brand in 1984.
This was one of the first sakes described as junmai ginjo, a mark of quality sakes, referring to a rice polishing ratio of 60% or less. The brand has been loved ever since with an elegant ginjo aroma, referring to fruity and floral flavors that are the hallmark of quality sakes. Kiippon is known for its well-balanced taste, which can be enjoyed on any occasion.
